Veniños also wanted to acknowledge the importance of good quality research and the dissemination of that information to people working directly with street and shanty town children. The key to developing effective and appropriate policy and practice is to first really understand the root causes of the problem.
It is therefore invaluable that experienced researchers and educators can communicate their knowledge and understanding to practitioners, who can all too easily just be dealing with the constant barrage of day to day issues and don't have time to step back and evaluate their experiences and reflect on their working practices or the fundamental causes of the crisis situations they handle daily.
For this reason we have dedicated a small proportion of funds to FUNDAICI, which is a leading NGO in the field of research and training.
Veniños has helped to publish a vital book about children at risk in Venezuela which gives an overview of what the actual situation is and what the causes and triggers for the problems are, thereby helping people who work with vulnerable and abused children to understand the broader background to individual crisis.
